Great Mills Trading Post and Construction Company, Inc. is a locally owned and operated commercial asphalt and concrete construction business. It is conveniently located in Southern Maryland’s St. Mary’s County, a suburb of Washington DC, in the city of Great Mills.
We also operate AAA Materials, Inc., in Great Mills which provides homeowners with decorative stone, gravel, mulch, topsoil, sand, bluestone and more.

Great Mills Trading Post was the original company which was formed in 1970. Its first business was the buying and selling of used furniture. Later, used equipment and cars were added to the mix. In 1985, the Great Mills Construction Company was founded as a separate company operating in the asphalt and concrete construction business. Then two years later the Great Mills Trading Post and Great Mills Construction Company were joined together. Great Mills has been a major provider of construction and equipment support services to state, local, and federal governments for over 30 years. We have been performing construction contracts for the Navy for over 20 years. |
Vehicle Fleet Maintenance
Great Mills maintains a vehicle and construction equipment fleet inventory of over 200 pieces in a ready and usable status. We have put in place several things to keep our equipment and vehicles operating at peak performance and in the most fuel efficient manner:
- The latest in engine diagnostic equipment
- Service records inspected and approved by the Department of Transportation
- A preventive maintenance schedule programmed to manufacturer’s recommendations
- Regular Steam clean washing for clean working environment and a professional appearance
Dispatch and Labor
Great Mills utilizes a radio dispatch service to direct vehicles and equipment to different areas and for shuttling personnel to various work locations. This makes us very responsive to customer requirements. Great Mills has a current labor force of 100 qualified skilled operators and construction workers. Our equipment and vehicle mechanics require ASE certification and are provided training on new equipment. Vehicle operators require commercial CDL licensing and regular physicals. Crane operators require OSHA certification and training. Flagmen require State of Maryland training.
Safety Program
Great Mills has a safety Program in place and ongoing for its construction contracts, both commercial and government. The Safety Program encompasses the entire gambit of safety issues and applications which are compliant with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Great Mills employs a full-time Safety Officer, Mr. Charles Tucker, who visits our job sites regularly and is very active in his application of safety.
